Panthers post third straight win

Creston senior Carson Beer returns a ball Monday against Chariton's Brystin Kaufman. Beer won the bout 8-2.

The Panther boys tennis hosted Chariton in tennis for senior night Monday, and Creston came away with the 6-3 dual win.

It’s Creston’s third straight win, and three of the team’s five seniors were able to log victories on the night.

Winning 8-2 was senior Carson Beer in No. 3 singles. In No. 4 singles, junior Dylan Dornack won 8-3. Senior Malachi Webber had a close one in No. 5 singles but was able to pull it off 8-6. Finally, Creston won 8-2 in No. 6 singles with senior C.T. Stalker.

The other two seniors honored were No. 1 Tim Bartlett and No. 2 Wesley Wires. They fell 8-0 and 8-3, respectively.

“It was a great evening to play tennis and honor our five seniors,” coach Kevin Cooper said. “They have all come a long way over the past few years on our team. They will be greatly missed next year and are just all around great kids.”

In doubles, Wires and Bartlett fell 8-3 to No. 1 doubles team Johnathon Pyatak and Kasyn Wilson. Beer and Dornack won 8-1 and Webber and Stalker took an 8-2 victory.

“It was nice for us to get the win tonight,” Cooper said. “We have some kids who are still just playing their first few varsity matches, and for them to get wins for us in these situations is great. We definitely have some things to work on for improvement.”

The Panthers return to action Wednesday in a tournament at Atlantic. Friday they host Clarinda in a conference dual.
