Creston swept 9-0 at Atlantic

ATLANTIC —- After winning three in a row, the Panthers faced a challenge Monday in Atlantic as the Trojan tennis team defeated Creston 9-0.

“To say it was a tough night for us would be an understatement,” coach Kevin Cooper said. “They handled the cold and wind way better than we did. We just were too inconsistent with everything we did. We had some chances through the dual to win points and just were unable to get it done.”

Seniors Wesley Wires and Carson Beer were the closest to snagging wins for the Panthers, but both fell just short.

In No. 2 singles, Wires faced senior Preston Harter. Though the two went to extra games, it was Harter who came away with the 9-7 victory. Beer competed in No. 3 singles against freshman Monte Smith. In the end, Smith won the 8-6 match.

Senior Wyatt Hitz was the next closest to victory, falling 8-4 in No. 6 singles to Koen Juhl. No. 1 Tim Bartlett won two games, No. 4 Dylan Dornack won one and No. 5 Malachi Webber was shut out.

In doubles, it was an easy sweep of the Panthers. The duos of Bartlett/Wires and Webber/Hitz both fell 8-1 while No. 2 doubles Beer/Dornack lost 8-2.

The Panthers will be back in Atlantic today for a tournament. They return home Friday to host Clarinda.
