Joseph S. Waigand, 53, of Thayer, was taken into custody May 27 on the charge of child endangerment.
According to a Union County Sheriff’s Office report, at approximately 8:41 p.m. a single-vehicle rollover accident was reported at Highway 34 and Talmage Road. When deputies arrived, a male, identified as Waigand, was standing next to an ATV in the ditch, and a juvenile was sitting in a vehicle on the side of the road.
While speaking with Waigand, the odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected coming from his person. He was observed to have bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech. Waigand admitted to drinking three or four Blue Moon beers approximately one hour prior to the accident.
Waigand said he let the juvenile drive the ATV and that they were chasing deer.
Waigand was transported by law enforcement to Greater Regional Health for injuries from the accident. Due to possible serious injuries, he was cited and released on a summons to appear.

Johnnie T. Lovell, 45, of Creston, was taken into custody May 20 on two Union County warrants for the charge of failure to appear on the original charges of eluding and driving while barred.
According to Union County District Court documents, Lovell was ordered to appear in court May 8 for pretrial conferences on the original charges and did not.
Lovell was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $3,000 cash bond.
