Gavin Q. Sharp, 20, of Colfax, was taken into custody May 16 on the charge of OWI, first offense. He was additionally cited for failure to maintain control, operating a vehicle without registration card or plate, failure to provide proof of financial liability in an accident and possession of alcohol by persons 18/19/20.
According to a Union County Sheriff’s Office report, at approximately 12:12 a.m. an occupied 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt was reported in the ditch at Highway 34 and 205th Street. When deputies arrived, contact was made with the male, identified as Sharp, who had slurred speech, impaired balance and the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Open alcohol containers were also observed in the Cobalt.
Sharp admitted to having five to seven shots of Fireball. He consented to field sobriety testing and showed validated clues of impairment. A PBT showed his BrAC to be above .08%. He later consented to provide a breath specimen for testing, the result of which indicated his BAC to be .187%.
Sharp was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.
