Creston Police: Three arrested on possession charges

Dennis Tyler, 47, of Creston, was taken into custody April 15, at Adams Street and New York Avenue on the charges of public intoxication, interference with official acts and violation of a no-contact order.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 7:55 a.m. officers observed Tyler standing next to a vehicle owned by the protected party in a no-contact order against him. Officers made contact with Tyler, who was speaking to the protected party.

While attempting to take Tyler into custody, he refused to comply with officers’ commands to place his hands behind his back, attempted to walk away from officers and held onto the police vehicle to avoid being handcuffed. Police had to physically remove him from the vehicle to handcuff him.

Tyler smelled strongly of alcohol and was talking with thick, slurred speech but refused to provide a breath sample.

Tyler was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $900 cash or surety bond.

Derik W. Pickrell, 41, of Fontanelle, was taken into custody April 15, at Howard and Sycamore streets on the charge of possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, first offense.

According to a Creston Police report, Pickrell knowingly possessed marijuana, a Schedule I controlled substance.

Pickrell was cited and released on a summons to appear.

Christian Garcia-Vazquez, 26, of Creston, was taken into custody April 17, in the 100 block of West Taylor Street on the charges of interference with official acts and possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, second offense.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 12:06 a.m. officers observed a 2010 Ford F150 with a partially broken taillight on South Chestnut Street. The registered owner of the truck also had an active warrant.

The F150 pulled into a parking lot and officers parked next to the vehicle and observed Garcia-Vazquez exit the driver’s seat. Garcia-Vazquez approached the patrol car and asked if everything was OK.

Officers asked for his license to confirm his identity and to verify if the listed warrant was valid for extradition. Garcia-Vazquez refused the initial request and multiple others that followed. He was told he was under arrest for interference with official acts. While attempting to put him in handcuffs, Garcia-Vazquez actively resisted officers.

During a search of his person a vape was located in his pocket that later field-tested positive for THC. Another vape was located in the truck that also tested positive for THC.

Garcia-Vazquez has a prior possession conviction in August 2023 in Union County.

Garcia-Vazquez was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,300 cash or surety bond.

Thomas Blobaum, 39, of Creston, was taken into custody April 17, at his residence on a Union County warrant for failure to appear on the original charge of domestic abuse assault, first offense. He was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, first offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Union County District Court documents, Blobaum was ordered to appear in court April 7 for a pretrial conference on the original charge and did not.

According to Creston Police reports, at approximately 10:07 p.m. officers observed Blobaum laying on a bed at his residence. Officers took Blobaum into custody for the active warrant. A search of his person resulted in officers locating a glass pipe with burnt crystalline residue, consistent with methamphetamine. There was also a crushed pipe on the bed where he was seen laying. A search warrant was obtained for his residence and the three glass pipes, one metal pipe and two baggies with a white crystalline substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine were seized.

Blobaum was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,600 cash or surety bond.
