Richard Ide, 93, of Shannon City, died Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. A Celebration of Life Service was held 12:30 p.m., Sunday, May 17, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastors Pete Brantner and Tim Maxa officiated. Services were livestreamed at a link under his obituary at powersfh.com. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery in Creston with Military Rites by the Theodore J. Martens Post 1797 of the Creston V.F.W. Open visitation, with family receiving friends, was 4-5:30 p.m., Saturday, May 16, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Richard James Ide, son of James Smith Ide and Eleanor Mildred (Hood) Ide, was born on Aug. 2, 1932, in Union County. He attended country schools as a child and later graduated from Shannon City High School in 1950. Upon finishing high school, Richard began farming the family farm in Union County. In 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served on active duty until he was honorably discharged in 1954. He was stationed in Korea during the Korean War and served as a member of the 57th Military Police Company.
When Richard returned home from serving, he resumed farming. He raised crops and livestock and enjoyed his horses. On Feb. 27, 1955, he was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Woosley. From this union came three children: Susan, Barbara and Dan.
Richard was recognized as a hard worker, a good steward of the land and a good neighbor. Richard served on the Union County Soils Commission for many years and was recognized with the Conservation Award of Merit for Outstanding Accomplishments in Resources Conservation in 1992. In 2006, he and Shirley received the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award. He was also recognized by the Union County Cattlemen as Cattleman of the Year in 2013. The farm was recognized as a Century Farm by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship in 2017.
Richard was a lifelong member of the Platte Center Presbyterian Church in rural Union County until its closure. He served as an elder and trustee at Platte for many years. He assisted with many projects and is fondly remembered as a longtime Sunday school teacher, having taught the young adult class for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years Shirley Ide of Shannon City; three children: Susan (Steve) White of Creston, Barbara Crittenden of Creston and Dan (Barb) Ide of Afton; seven grandchildren: Shawn (Amanda) White of Reeseville, Wisconsin, Shannon (Andrew) Jensen of Colorado Springs, Colorando, Sierra (Craig) Mattson of Smithville, Missouri, Sydney (Tony) Cruz of Creston, Jim (Lindsay) Ide of Creston, Emily (Lindsay) Ide of Shannon City and Kayli (Michael) Melvin of Afton; sister-in-law Shirley Ruth (Frank) Ide; 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Frank Ide and Judy (Harry) Frink; two grandchildren, Sylviann White and Eric Crittenden and his brothers and sisters-in-law: LeRoy (Frieda) Tinker, Kenneth (Geraldine) Scherer, Bill (Joan) Goodale and Melba (Lester) Akers
