Roger Lee Fry was born Dec. 23, 1952, to Walter Edward and Clara Ellen (Reed) Fry in Greenfield, the 10th of 11 children.

Roger was a “wild” child and was expelled from school his sophomore year. He decided he didn’t need to return to school, when his mother realized after three days that he hadn’t been going to school, she hollered up the stairs asking if he had quit school and he replied YES, I sure did. She said you better get a job, so he got a job and worked every day after until his retirement in 2018.

Roger was a truck driver for all his life, beginning his career with Crouse Cartage Company (CCC) and becoming a proud member of the Teamsters Union. He dedicated 27 years to Crouse, before the company closed. After the closure, he took a job that placed him over the road and only home a few days out of the month. This was something he had no desire to do, as it took him away from his family for too long. Roger landed a job with Dohrn trucking where he continued to work until his retirement.

After retirement he went to work for Carey Lynam at Lynam Lawn Care, doing another thing he loved - mowing. He worked as much as he could for Carey, loving the outside world and being on a John Deere mower.

Being a dad was the highlight of his life. On August 29, 1970, he became a father to Roger Lee II. Roger met Beth in March 1983, and immediately took in her children, Renee and Amy, as his own.

Roger and Beth married June 3, 1988, and they continued their entire married life in Creston.

Roger fought a 15-month battle with small cell lung cancer, never giving up. He fought like a champ and never complained. He was determined to fight until the cancer wouldn’t allow him to fight. This wasn’t a defeat to him, this was VICTORY, because he “wasn’t a quitter.”

The love Roger had for his family will continue through our hearts and daily lives.

Roger was a member of the Eagles, a former member of the Sons of the American Legion and Teamsters Union.
