Planning CCSD facility plan continues

Workshops held by district leading up to 2022 bond referendum

Creston Community School District school board and DLR Group continue to host workshops, forums and community meetings as it continues developing the district’s facility master plan.

Eric Beron from Des Moines-based DLR Group gave the board an update Monday after small group discussions among staff, faculty and students were held to identify and plan priority improvements at each campus.

At the high school, three groups all had stadium parking improvements as a top priority. Other priority items among high school students and staff include stadium entry way and concessions, restroom renovations, performing arts center renovation and expansion, media center renovation, information technology improvements and tennis courts.

At the elementary and middle schools, circulation at the pick up and drop-off area and gym acoustic improvements were identified as a top priority among its three groups of students, staff and faculty. Other areas identified as priorities include parking expansion, wrestling gym addition and baseball diamond improvements/addition.

The ECC staff and administration identified demolition of the existing gymnasium as a priority among its three groups. The school drop-off/pick-up area is also a priority, as is the renovation of the administration wing and renovation of the ECC restrooms and parking lot circulation.

What’s next?

After the district completes its planning workshops, it will host its own board workshop in October. The board will finalize its plans at that time. Once the plan and estimates are approved, a bond campaign is expected to begin in January with the community voting on a bond referendum in March.
