Great Western Bank has new ATMs across Iowa but there is a huge problem. About three weeks ago, I received a notice from Great Western Bank saying that every GWB customer in Iowa would be receiving a new ATM card even if the card doesn’t expire for a year, and that they were to activate the new card and pin upon arrival. Upon activation your current card was supposed to be automatically deactivated when the new one is activated and if you did not activate the new card, all current debit cards would be deactivated March 16, 2020.
I activated my new card a week ago, however charges kept coming through my account from the previous card. Not fraudulent but the problem is, the old card never deactivated. I thought I would give it a couple days thinking maybe it was things that had gone through the system and just were crossing but it continued for five days and I hadn’t used the new card for any of the charges so I called the bank to check and the cards are not automatically deactivating as they had said so everyone across Iowa needs to manually deactivate those cards or they can be subject to charges from the old card numbers. I asks a few people in town that bank at GWB and their cards were the same as mine so it would be worth looking into before something really bad happens.
