Shenandoah shot 26-over par 170 to win a boys triangular golf meet Monday at Crestmoor Golf Club.

The Mustangs finished seven strokes in front of Creston’s score of 177, followed by Southwest Valley at 193.

“Marshall Long and Ethan Laughlin of Shenandoah both shot (3-over par) 39, but Ethan won on handicap hole tiebreaker for medalist honors with Marshall as runner-up,” Creston head coach Steve Shantz said.

Senior Chasse Downing and sophomore Branden Spencer also made the top 10 overall in shooting 9-over 45.

Sophomore Casey Jones led Southwest Valley at 8-over 44.

Meanwhile, Creston girls competed in the seven-team tournament at Lakeview Country Club in Winterset. The Panthers placed fourth in the 18-hole event with a score of 563. Van Meter won close battle for the title at 412, four strokes in front of Winterset and five ahead of Chariton.

Josie Bemis of Van Meter was medalist with a 16-over par 86. Creston’s Ricci Johnston was fifth with an 18-hole round of 100.

Also finishing in the top 20 for the Panthers were Kennedy Strider (113) and Isabella Spencer (122).

“Ricci Johnston placed fifth and was close to breaking 100 for the first time,” Shantz said. “We are improving in each meet, concentrating not on the score but making better contact and learning what part of their game they need to work on.”
