Panthers defeat Cyclones in home quad

Carroll goes 3-0

Tyler Travis of Creston pins Harlan's Avery Kimmen Thursday in a home quadrangular with Lewis Central, Harlan and Carroll.

Thursday the Panthers hosted Lewis Central, Carroll and Harlan for a competitive quadrangular where the Carroll Tigers went 3-0 on the evening. Creston came away 1-2, defeating Harlan in the third round.

Undefeated on the evening were Panthers Kylen Parsons, Lane Travis and Colby Brammer.

Lewis Central 64, Creston 18

With injuries and a bare lineup in the lighter weight classes, Creston started each dual with forfeits at 106, 113 and 120.

Parsons got wrestling started against LC with a pin over Blake Aldrich in the first period.

The Panthers won five out of 11 contested matches. Parsons was the only win by fall, but Travis defeated Lewis Central’s Owen Duffek 4-2. The two have gone back and forth, Duffek defeating Travis at the Panther Invitational Jan. 17.

Jose Avila lifts Lewis Central's Layton Wright. Avila won the bout 10-8.

At 150, Brammer defeated Isaac Bates in a 10-6 decision. Jose Avila took the 157-pound win in a 10-8 decision. Jackson Pettegrew had the final win with a 6-1 decision over Brody Burroughs.

Lewis Central went on to defeat Harlan 42-9 before losing to Carroll 52-23.

Carroll 54, Creston 21

Again after starting 18 points in the hole, Parsons scored six for the Panthers with a pin of Collin Tedrow in 29 seconds. Parsons was 3-0 on the night, all by fall.

The score tied at 21 apiece after Carroll forfeited at 138 and 150. Zadek Engdahl brought home a big win at 144 in the absence of Brodrick Phelps. Engdahl won in a 13-7 decision over Michael Rowedder of Carroll.

After the tied score, Carroll had the strength of their lineup, winning the remaining six bouts, four by fall.

Creston 42, Harlan 9

Neither team had any wrestlers in the lowest weight classes, so this time it was Creston getting out to an 18-0 start.

Seniors Parsons, Travis and Gunner Martwick all had pins in the first period — wins expected of them. It was a couple of younger athletes who got the chance to earn redemption in the final round.

Tyler Travis earned a well-fought victory as he pinned Avery Kimmen in 4:41. Nate Bentley defeated Jackson Ahrenholtz in a 15-4 major decision. Both lost close matches earlier in the day but were able to come back and finish the job in the final dual.

Other Panther winners included Jackson Pettegrew with a 10-7 decision over Christian Anderson and Tom Mikkelsen with a 19-3 technical fall over Nick Gubbels.
