Creston Police: Two men arrested after altercation on Adams Street

Laci L. Brown, 49, of Creston, was taken into custody May 3 on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 1:20 a.m. Brown and a 1997 Lexus ES was observed at Sumner Avenue and Russell Street in a restricted area closed off to the public. Inside the vehicle in plain view, officers observed drug paraphernalia that field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

A probable cause search was conducted and a marijuana grinder, wax, a baggie with a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana and a marijuana pipe were seized. Brown made statements about the items being hers.

Brown was cited and released at the scene on a summons to appear.

Stormy R. Jones, 19, of Creston, was taken into custody May 4 on the charge of driving under suspension.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 11:48 p.m. Jones was observed driving a 2004 Chrysler Concorde on 170th Street. Jones was found to have a suspended license.

Jones was cited and released at the scene on a summons to appear.

Hayden G. Mohwinkle, 18, of Carlisle, was taken into custody May 5 on the charges of OWI, first offense, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol by person 18/19/20, first offense.

According to Creston Police reports, at approximately 1:11 a.m. a 2013 Buick Regal was observed in the parking lot of Southwestern Community College running with its lights on. As officers passed the rear of the Regal, there was no driver visible, which led officers to get out and check on the car.

A male, later identified as Mohwinkle, was observed slumped over with his eyes closed in the driver’s seat. Also observed were open cans of Twisted Tea in the cup holders of the Regal. The driver’s door was unlocked, so officers opened it and attempted to wake Mohwinkle. After waking up, Mohwinkle appeared confused and did not speak coherently.

Mohwinkle consented to field sobriety testing and showed clues of impairment. A PBT showed his BrAC to be over .08%. He later consented to provide a breath specimen for chemical testing, the result of which indicated his BAC to be .104%.

Mohwinkle was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Mauricio Trejos Castaneda, 27, of Creston, was taken into custody May 5 on two counts of harassment, first degree - fourth or subsequent offense.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 6:58 p.m. a disturbance was reported in the 300 block of West Adams Street.

Officers spoke with all parties involved including Castaneda. Witnesses stated Castaneda made finger gun gestures in the direction of a vehicle and threw a rock at the vehicle. When the victim pulled over to confront Castaneda, he ran inside a nearby restaurant.

It was also stated that a different victim drove past Castaneda earlier and Castaneda again displayed a finger gun gesture. After the victim in this incident dropped off a child, he drove back by and Castaneda displayed the same gesture. This victim pulled over to confront Castaneda who again ran into the restaurant but was followed by the victim.

Castaneda has been convicted of harassment on three or more occasions within the past year.

Castaneda was transported to the Union County Jail where he was held on $2,000 cash or surety bond.

Brody J. Jay, 34, of Creston, was taken into custody May 5 on the charge of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 6:58 p.m. while officers were investigating a disturbance in the 300 block of West Adams Street they were advised of threats made with a gun.

One of the individuals involved provided video of Jay stopping his truck in the roadway and reversing the vehicle as the other party walked away. The victim stated Jay displayed a gun and made what he thought was a threat toward him.

Jay told officers he drove by the victim a few minutes prior and the victim had made finger gun gestures and a shooting motion with his hands toward Jay. When Jay drove back by, the victim made the same gesture, so he stopped his truck to confront him. Jay admitted during the confrontation he did take his Glock 43 out and displayed the weapon to the victim and made a statement to the victim that if he continued to mess around he was going to get shot by someone with an actual gun. The victim was yelling at Jay and escalating the situation.

When Jay got out of his truck, the victim retreated into a restaurant and Jay continued to follow him in an aggressive manner. Although Jay did have a loaded gun in his truck, he stated he left the gun in the vehicle when he followed the victim into the restaurant.

Jay was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $2,000 cash or surety bond.
