Carlos I. Cortez, 29, of Creston, was taken into custody May 3, at REA Road and Violet Street in Lorimor on the charges of possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, third or subsequent offense and driving while suspended.
According to a Union County Sheriff’s Office report, at approximately 9:46 p.m. a 2010 Toyota Corolla was stopped for a traffic violation. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Cortez, who was found to have a suspended driver’s license.
While speaking with Cortez, the odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle. Cortez admitted to having a couple of grams of marijuana in the car. A probable cause search was conducted and a baggie containing marijuana was located.
Cortez has two prior convictions Oct. 21, 2017, in Taylor County and Nov. 13, 2024, in Union County, for marijuana possession.
Cortez was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $2,000 cash or surety bond.
