Chase I. Ditzler, 22, of Afton, was taken into custody 4:24 p.m., June 15 at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on the charge of violation of parole, theft second degree and theft fifth degree.

According to Afton Police reports, on May 22, a red 1998 Mercury Mountaineer was reported missing from the 100 block of S. Douglas Street in Afton. The owner of the vehicle said Ditzler was at the house that night and after the owner went to bed, Ditzler took the vehicle and a wallet containing $200.

While Ditzler was in custody in Missouri on charges regarding a different stolen vehicle, a Missouri State Trooper who spoke with Ditzler said he admitted to taking the Mountaineer and leaving it somewhere in Arkansas.

Prior to the May 22 incident, Ditzler had been on parole for a previous incident. His failure to report, failure to stay at approved residence and a new criminal charge led to a warrant being issued for his arrest.

According to Iowa District Court documents, on May 23, Ditzler’s mother reported she was unable to locate or contact him after he left the home on May 21.

On May 24, Ditzler did not attend his parole appointment. On May 25, Ditzler was arrested in Bates County, Missouri on the charge of tampering, first degree.

Ditzler was transported to the Union County Jail where he is being held without bond until seen by a judge.
