Lila G. McCann

Lila McCann, 85, of Creston, died Saturday, May 23, 2026, surrounded by her family at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. No services will be held at this time per Lila’s wishes. Private family burial will be at a later date.

Lila Gay (Mintle) McCann, daughter of Harland Russell Mintle and Mary Lou (Rinard) Mintle, was born Sept. 7, 1940, in Winterset. Lila attended Earlham Community schools, where she graduated in 1959. Lila continued her education by attending Nursing Aide School in Fontanelle.

Lila then began work in Des Moines as a bookkeeper and accountant. In 1991, Lila worked at Bunn-O-Matic in Creston. After working at Bunn, Lila began to work in food service for both the grade school and high school in Creston.

On July 28, 1991, Lila was united in marriage to Vincent Kirk McCann in Creston.

Lila’s favorite things in life were family, flowers and chocolate. She is remembered for her kind heart and generous spirit.

Lila is survived by her husband Kirk McCann; her children: Kelly (Scott) Schultz of Creston, Douglas Lamb of Diagonal, David (Heidi) Lamb of Diagonal, Linda (David) Hopper of Lakeview, Oregon, and Shane (Brenda) McCann of Des Moines; sister Donna Courtney of Altoona; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Sue Mintle of Des Moines and two brothers-in-law, John Tapken of Creston and Mike McCann of Austin, Texas .

Lila is preceded in death by her parents; daughter Angela; brother Bill Mintle; daughter-in-law Cheryl Lamb and sister-in-law Kathy Tapken.
