Terry L. Horning

Peoria, Arizona

Terry L. Horning, 81. of Peoria, Arizona, formerly of Creston, died April 14, 2026, at his home in Arizona.

Terry Lee Horning was born May 10, 1944, in Creston and passed away suddenly April 14, 2026, at his home in Arizona at the age of 81 years. Terry was the eldest son of Emmert Matthias Horning and Dorothy Jeane Livingston. Terry attended Creston High School and went on to major in communications at the University of Iowa.

Following college, Terry ran the family-owned radio station, KSIB, before seizing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to become a referee for the Harlem Globetrotters. During his decade with the Globetrotters, Terry traveled the world, embraced the high-per-diem life, appeared in several commercials and even enjoyed tea with Queen Elizabeth II.

One of Terry’s passions in life was the game of golf, which was both a hobby and a profession. During his career, Terry worked for Tommy Armour and Ram Golf as a golf pro in Arizona. He will be remembered for his charisma, his unique gift for storytelling and as someone who loved dogs almost as much as he loved cocktails. If you ever had brunch with him, no matter where you ate, you also had the best pancakes you’ve ever had!

Terry is survived by his daughter Danielle Horning; his son Payne Horning; his sister Sandra Horning, her husband Richard Miller and their sons Jordan Miller, wife Gopika and children Maya and Jay, and Jared Miller, wife Allison and children Sid, Stan, and Miriam.
