Sharon Skarda, 88, of Monticello, Minnesota, formerly of Creston, passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, at Centra Care Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Sharon Skarda, 88, of Monticello, Minnesota, formerly of Creston, passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, at Centra Care Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Mass of Christian Burial memorial services will be held at a later date at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. Powers Funeral Home in Creston is in charge of arrangements.

Sharon Jean Skarda was born Aug. 6, 1935, to Helen Agnes (Haney) and William Michael Rozane in Rising City, Nebraska. Sharon graduated from Columbus High School in 1953.

On July 27, 1957, Sharon was united in marriage to Richard ‘Dick’ Edward in Columbus, Nebraska. When they were first married they lived in various communities in Nebraska. In 1965 they settled in Creston, where she began doing secretarial work and later began working as the director of medical records department, where she worked for 20 years, retiring in 2005, after 40 years of service at the Greater Regional Medical Center.

Sharon was an active member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Council of Catholic Women, Chautauqua and the American Health Information Association, where she has served in many different offices in the state association. In Sharon’s free time she enjoyed puzzles, dominoes, crossword puzzles, reading, particularly mysteries by James Patterson, playing bridge and working at the Creston Rerun shop.

Sharon is survived by her son Rich Skarda of Creston; daughter, LeAnn (David) Dodge of Monticello; grandchildren Abby (Eric) Sink of Corning, Jarrett Skarda of Creston, Erin Skarda (Keith) of Ankeny and Taylor Hess of Monticello; nieces: Jennifer (Scott) England of Littleton, Colorado, Sarah Morrow of Ames and Molly (Erik) Paulson of Denver, Colorado; nephews: Fred Morrow of Ames and Tim (Brenda) Morrow of Altoona; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Skarda in 2018; a sister, Nancy (David) Morrow; her parents-in-law, George and Helen Skarda; brothers-in-law: Robert and Marvin Skarda and sisters-in-law, Helen Skarda and Laura Skarda Mansfield.
