Mary B. Purdy, 94, of Orient, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023, at Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Mary Purdy, 94, of Orient, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023 at Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Greenfield. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6 at Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield with burial following in the Orient Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the Plymouth Congregational Church in Orient following the burial. An open visitation will be held 2-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5 at Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield. The family will greet friends from 1-2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6 at the funeral home. The Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of the professional arrangements.

Mary Bell Purdy was born Oct. 6, 1928, to the late Henry Merle Young and Martha Elisabeth Young in Creston. Mary was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

Mary was joined in marriage June 22, 1946, to Arthur Stephen Purdy in Troy, Kansas.

Mary loved the Lord and her family fiercely. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church of Orient, where she found solace and strength in her faith. Mary’s children and grandchildren were her proudest accomplishments.

Mary’s hobbies included crafts of all kinds, as well as garage sales and flea markets. She had a keen eye for finding hidden treasures and enjoyed creating beautiful pieces. Mary was also a historian of facts when it came to Orient and Creston. Her body grew weak but her mind was sharp until the end.

Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Jack Rew of Overland Park, Kansas; her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Linda Purdy of Orient; her daughter-in-law, Donna Purdy of Milford; her sister, Claudia (Gary) Hammond of Waco, Texas; 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild on the way.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Stephen Purdy; her son, Gene Purdy; three brothers: Tom Young, Richard Young and Harry Young; her father-in-law, Arthur Leslie Purdy; her mother-in-law, Elma Etta Purdy; her grandsons, Chad Seamon and Todd Frantzen and her granddaughters, Tonya Florence and Kristin Purdy.
