The new scoop: Uptown ice cream parlor now open

Breckyn Kawa scoops ice cream at B&B Scoops.

Twelve flavors at any time and a family legacy behind each scoop, B&B Scoops delivered their first ice cream cones and bowls to the Creston public yesterday.

Although open a little later than expected, local Creston restaurant A&G has expanded with a new ice cream parlor, now open for anyone looking for a sweet treat in Uptown. B&B Scoops offers ice cream and continues A&G’s experiments with dirty sodas and more.

Alongside the classics of chocolate, vanilla and mint chip, B&B also currently offers more eccentric flavors like caramel apple crisp, root beer float and butter pecan. These hard-packed flavors, hand-scooped, are on rotation.

Britni Kawa, co-owner of A&G, said her favorite flavor is tipsy banana. She has owned A&G alongside her husband Jake since 2016. B&B is the next evolution of the business in the decade since they took over.

“That was the biggest thing for us,“ Britni said. ”When we decided to move back and buy a business, that’s because we loved it growing up as kids. I like that small town feel. So for us, we wanted to come back and reestablish and put our roots here."

Named after Britni’s daughters Breckyn and Bradley, B&B’s inception came from the two girls.

“Our daughters came up with the idea,” Britni said. “We relocated to Arizona for a couple years. When we came back, their biggest thing was we should open up a dirty soda shop and an ice cream shop. That’s where the B&B comes from. We did that for them.”

With more activity in Uptown Creston, Britni said new businesses will always be a sign of good things to come in the city.

“The more businesses that we get up here and we establish, it’s going to naturally draw more people Uptown, which then, at the end of the day, in rotation, is going to also make people want to put more businesses Uptown,” Britni said.

B&B Scoops is located at 209 W Adams Street, to the east of A&G Restaurant and Lounge.
