Creston’s ‘Freaky Friday’ starts Friday

From book to movie to the stage at Creston High School, Creston High will perform “Freaky Friday,” at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Freaky Friday is a musical by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey based on a book from 1972 of the same name by Mar Rodgers. Movies based on the book have been released in 1976 and 2003. A made-for-television movie was released in 1995. In the story, when an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again before the mom’s wedding.

“Freaky Friday” is about teenager Ellie Blake and her mother, Katherine, on the most bizarre day of their lives. Katherine and Ellie struggle to understand each other: Ellie wants mom to stop trying to change her. Katherine wants Ellile to be the best that she can be. On a fateful Friday, the day before Katherine’s wedding, something supernatural occurs when mother and daughter swap bodies. Now, both will have to spend a day walking in each other’s shoes, learning about each other and the struggles each goes through and forging a new mother-daughter relationship in this hilarious, energetic musical comedy.

The Blake family is played by Bridget Hopkins (Ellie) and Alysha Marquardt (Katherine). Mike is played by Sam Duncan. Grandpa Gordon is Carson Beer and Grandma Helene is Savannah Sistad. Fletcher Blake is played by Ky Hanson.

Other students in the performance, playing students, are: Adam, Austin Seaton; Gretchen, Taron Needham; Hannah, Abby Collins; Savannah, Trinity Woody; Parker, Rendon Mohr; Wells, Brendan Millsagle, and Laurel, Lily Seaton.

Others in the play include Aaniah Haynes, Emma Pantini, Zayley Martin, Makalyla Wilson, Christian White, Brenton Vanderpluym, Rhianna Weems, Khol Ringer, Shyla Stow, Wyatt Hitz, Chaylee Needham and Hailey Gutmann.
