The location for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Southwest Iowa’s new Greenfield site has been finalized, with programming set to take place inside Nodaway Valley Elementary School beginning June 1 — and families have until May 4 to register.

The Nodaway Valley School Board recently approved use of the elementary school gym, commons and music room for the summer. The district will allow use of the facility at no cost, except for custodial fees.

The club will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. five days per week, except July 3. The summer programming fee is $300 per member. Membership forms are available at bgcadair.org under the membership tab and can be dropped off at The Gathering Place in Greenfield or emailed to bgcadair@gmail.com.

Executive Director Heather Schneider said she is excited for the Adair club to expand into Greenfield.

“From the moment this idea became a reality, there has been a strong sense of momentum and collaboration,” she said. “So many people, from school staff to community members, have stepped up, asked how they can help and worked together to make this happen. It’s been energizing to see everyone rally around creating new opportunities for kids in the Nodaway Valley area.”

Schneider’s daughter, Paxton, the Adair site program director, has already begun planning structured programming that includes learning opportunities and field trips, coordinating logistics and ensuring everything is ready to safely and effectively serve kids this summer.

Nodaway Valley alum McKynna Newbury, a teacher in Creston, was recently announced as program director of the Greenfield site. A previous employee at the Adair site, officials said they are excited to see Newbury flourish at their new site.

Once the May 4 enrollment deadline passes, the hiring process will begin. The club has already seen a strong turnout of applications.

Plans are also underway to provide free meals daily. Donations and partnerships are playing a key role in helping the club get off the ground, Schneider said.

Finding a location was one of the biggest hurdles, and Schneider said she is grateful to Nodaway Valley for use of its space. Officials are continuing conversations to secure a longer-term location in the community starting this fall.

“This is just the beginning, and we know it will continue to grow and evolve,” Schneider said. “Our goal is to create a safe, welcoming and engaging environment for kids in the Nodaway Valley Community School District, and we’re excited to build something the entire community can be proud of.”
