WOODWARD — Stiff competition met the Nodaway Valley Wolverines in a track meet last Friday night at Woodward-Granger High School. The boys were sixth and the girls eighth in their respective team standings.
On the girls side of the meet, the distance medley (Allie Cornelison, Kylie Nelson, Emma Boswell and Izzy Eisbach) took gold in 4:34.77, while Boswell was the high jump winner, leaping 4-09 — a season best. She was third in long jump (15-06).
Other girls top-4 finishes start with mid-distance runner Abby Nelson taking third in the 800m run with a personal record of 2:30.28). The 4x400m relay (Cornelison, Emma Boswell, Abby Nelson and Kylie Nelson) was fourth (4:42.66), as was Cornelison in the 400m hurdles (1:06.87) and Eisbach in the 1500m (5:06.27).
Performances that had lower finishes but set personal records were Ava Herrick in the 200 (32.01) and Kiah Tener in the shot put (21-07).
On the boys side, sprinter Cassius Burnside won the 200 (23.75) with a personal record. He was also second in the 100 in 11.45 seconds.
Several other relay events were top eight.
The 4x800m relay (Haden Colton, Everett Ehler, Josh Nelson and Paul Kading) took third in 9:15.88, the 4x400m team (Haden Colton, Titan Foster, Eli Campbell and Gabe Winkelmann) was fourth in 3:46.90), the shuttle hurdle quartet (Brandon Decena, Campbell, Lyrick Schwartz and Micah Cronk) took sixth in 1:21.23), the sprint medley (Logan Lantz, Lyrick Schwartz, Austin Walker and Campbell) was seventh in 1:48.68 and the distance medley (Cronk, Trevyn Colton, Josh Nelson and Cael Strode) was eighth (4:21.35).
Individual entries in the top eight were Foster taking sixth in the long jump (18-07), Winkelmann placing seven in the 3200 (10:42.52) and Haden Colton taking seventh in the 400 (57.24).
Other boys events had personal records but didn’t place. Therese were Foster in the 200 (27.70), Strode in the 800 (2:27.62) and Clay Raasch in the discus (56-10).
Roland-Story won the girls team race with 123 points, despite just three individual event wins. Des Moines Christian (119), Perry (101), Woodward-Granger (95) and PCM (71) rounded out the top five.
Roland-Story also won the boys team title (with 119 points), ahead of Nevada (112.5), Des Moines Christian (105), Woodward-Granger (92) and PCM (82.5), who were all in the top five. Nodaway Valley’s sixth-place finish (46) was distant from the rest.
