We’ve got spirit, yes we do!

Nodaway Valley's 2023 homecoming king and queen candidates are from left in front, queen candidates Ellie Brewer, Mariah Mather, Annika Nelson and Emma Lundy; back row: king candidates Zack Debbie, Dawson Nelson, Xander Hogan and Dax Kintigh.

Nodaway Valley and Orient-Macksburg are each ready to roll out homecoming activities next week.

Nodaway Valley’s homecoming theme will revolve around Hollywood and celebrities.

Thursday, Sept. 28, pancakes will be served 4:30-7 p.m. in the old Greenfield fire station. The parade, traveling from the elementary school, down NW 2nd Street to West Iowa Street, east around the square, and then back to the school via NW 2nd Street, will begin at 7 p.m. Following the parade is a community pep rally in the stadium.

Friday an all-school pep rally will happen at 2:15 p.m. in the stadium. The football game, against West Central Valley, kicks off at 7 p.m. The king and queen will be named at halftime.

The formal coronation will be 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 in the high school auditorium with the dance to follow in the gym.

Nodaway Valley dress up days include Morning After the Oscars (pajamas) Monday, Stunt Double (Twin) Day Tuesday, Hollywood Walk of Fame (Tourist) Day Wednesday, Star Athlete (Jersey) Day Thursday and Hometown Celeb (School Spirit) Day Friday.

“I think we have a lot of good things planned. It’s a lot of the normal ‘tradition’ things,” said Lundy, Nodaway Valley Student Council President. “The lead up to homecoming is a big part [of the fun]. The dress up days get everybody excited, then the games at the pep rally are funny to watch.”

Student Council Advisor Dani Klobnak commented it is fun to see the students take ownership of planning and carrying out homecoming activities.

Orient-Macksburg may be small, but their homecoming week will be celebrated in a big way, the school reported in a recent press release.

Sunday, Sept. 24, a class volleyball tournament will happen in the school gym. Monday at 4:30 p.m. will be a home cross country meet at Lake Orient. Coronation is 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the gym, followed by the dance.
