In an effort to stir community support and camaraderie, as well as prepare for the Fourth of July celebration that is slated to be back in Fontanelle in 2024, the Fontanelle Enterprise Club is spearheading a Slab Supper that will be 5-8 p.m. Friday night.
The site for the supper will be the fire station and community building. For a free will donation, visitors can eat pork loin or chicken legs, served with baked beans, chips, lettuce salad and a dessert.
“We’re hoping we can get the community pulled back together,” said Miranda Warrior, one of the event coordinators. “We hope people come out and socialize.”
Paired with the meal will be plenty of activities for children, both in the street in front of the fire station and at the nearby Fontanelle Public Library. This will include bounce houses.
Enterprise Club members say that a recent movie night in the city park was a big hit. There are plans in the works to continue those as fundraising events for the Fourth of July, with a few kinks worked out they learned from the first time.
In addition, the Enterprise Club plans to have several other events to plan for the Fourth of July. In all, they hope many people step up to help plan the celebration, because many hands makes light work.
“We just want people to come out and support it,” said Dianna Goetz. “We’ve got to have community support if we’re going to continue to have Fourth of Julys in these small towns. It’s a lot of work and a lot of money.”
