Diana Driskill

Afton

On May 31, 2020, Diana Driskill’s spirit left her body behind and soared into the arms of Jesus, culminating in great joy and peace beyond comprehension.

Diana Gay Driskill was born in Omaha, Nebraska, June 16, 1935, to James and Anna Koutsky. She attended schools in Gretna and Omaha, Nebraska, before her family moved to Iowa her junior year. Diana graduated from East Union High School in 1952. She then worked at the Bell Telephone Company in Des Moines.

While attending high school, Diana met her future husband Perry (Bill) Duane Driskill. They were married March 5, 1955, and lived in Savannah, Georgia, while Bill completed his service in the U.S. Air Force. In 1956, a son Russell was born, followed in 1959 by a daughter Laura.

After completing his military duty, Bill and Diana returned to the Afton area to begin farming. In 1964 they bought a farm east of Afton where they lived, worked, and raised a family for 52 years. In 2016, they sold the farm and moved to Afton.

It was on the farm Diana’s love of growing flowers took full bloom. Her large garden and beautiful flower beds brought joy to many. She loved her dogs, especially Mandy, who was her cheerful companion for many years. Reading was also a favorite pastime. Diana enjoyed lunching at the Kansas Street Deli in Afton, meeting friends and eating Callista’s delicious desserts.

Bill and Diana’s grandsons enjoyed many happy days with their grandparents on the farm. Grandma’s pot roast with mashed potatoes and gravy was always a fan favorite. They also shared several trips to Branson together which produced many good memories.

Diana was a member of the Afton Assembly of God Church for many years. She loved the Lord and her faith and trust in Him led others to follow Him.

Diana was preceded in death by her son Russell, her parents James and Anna Koutsky, and her sisters Carol Novacek and Joyce Tobin.

She leaves behind a family who will be forever grateful she was a part of their lives: husband Perry Driskill of Afton; daughter Laura (John) Pfaltzgraff of Des Moines; grandsons David (Anna) Pfaltzgraff of Urbandale and Daniel (Allison) Pfaltzgraff of West Des Moines and three great-grandchildren of Urbandale.

Diana received kind and compassionate care at the EveryStep Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston. She passed away due to complications from cancer.

Due to Covid-19 concerns, memorials services will be announced at a later date. Powers Funeral Home in Afton is in charge of arrangements. Please send any memorials in her name to Afton Assembly of God Church, 105 Browning St., Afton, IA 50830. Online condolences can be left at www.powersfh.com.
