Miriam Circle of Salem Lutheran Church
Miriam Circle of Salem Lutheran Church met via Zoom May 7, with nine members answering roll call. They shared a positive experience in dealing with the coronavirus. Pastor Cal led the Bible lesson on “Plenty Good Room” — which asks the question “are we being hospitable enough in our community?”
The business meeting was led by facilitator Joyce Anderson opening with prayer. Thank-yous were given to all participants and to those who made this meeting happen. Minutes of the last meeting were read by Becky Nardy. Carolyn Biere gave an update on all the meetings being canceled or postponed.
The club’s convention is scheduled for next June at First Lutheran Church in Algona. A triennial convention will also be held a year later in Arizona. Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will hold a meeting at a later time to discuss options for an annual sale.
The club was reminded about our five local 2020 graduating students: Payton Burg, Levi Hitz, Spencer Lane, Brittany Lynch and Emma Pantini. The club’s newsletter contains pictures and short bios of each of them.
Old business: All activities have been canceled until further notice. Pastor Cal continues to send devotions and Sunday worship services.
New business: 60 baby quilts were delivered to Greater Regional Health Center made by Lois Olsen and Mary Henriksen. Volunteers will be sending notes or phone calls to our shut-ins. Offertory for April and May will be made up. If possible, the September meeting will be held Sept. 3 with Elaine Fargo as hostess, Joyce Anderson as facilitator and Judy Eklund to give the Bible study. The club’s meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer.

GFWC/Iowa Elzevir Reading Circle
The April and May meetings of the GFWC/Iowa Elzevir Reading Circle were both canceled due to COVID-19. The first meeting next fall is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Sept. 11. at the home of Linda Topliff. She will be reviewing the club’s constitution and by-laws. New members interesting in joining Elzevir may contact her or other members of the club.
