Dean Paxson, 84, of Creston died Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at Creston Specialty Care in Creston.
Celebration of life services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave., in Creston. The Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton with full military honors provided by Theodore J. Martens V.F.W. Post 1797 of Creston. Open visitation with family present will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are to the family. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.
Dean Edward Paxson, son of Merle Edward Paxson and Toia (Thomas), was born Sept. 8, 1934, in Creston. He grew up in Arispe and graduated from Arispe in 1952. He served his country in the U.S. Army from April 1954 until March 1956.
On Nov. 16, 1957, Dean married Arlene Louise Richards in Omaha, Nebraska. They settled in Creston where he did carpentry. They later divorced.
In 1963, he married Betty June Eggman in Nebraska. He moved to Rupert, Idaho, where he worked in a potato factory, returning to Creston in 1966. While living in Creston, he worked for the Purolator on the assembly line. He was later divorced from Betty.
Dean also worked at the Jimmy Dean plant in Osceola with the cleaning crew, Max Smith Construction doing waterlines and 10 years for Carlson Construction doing road construction. Retiring in 1999, he stayed busy with construction projects of his own.
Dean is survived by his sons, Luke Paxson of Creston and Mark Paxson of Ocoee, Florida; daughter Deanna (Jim) Flynn of Mercer, Missouri; brother Tom Paxson of Bedford; grandchildren, Roxanne Walter of Afton, April Hughes (James Cihak) of Afton and Jesse (Jessica) Shade of Afton; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Marissa Walter, Braeton Rinner, Logan Shady, Justice Rinner, and Kayli, Adrianna and Michael Shade; and niece CheriAnn (Pat) Blacketen of Bedford.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Brenda (Mike) Shade, grandson-in-law Sam Walter and niece Janet Rankin.
