5 minutes with Myrna Beving of Rieman Music

Hometown: Rapid City, South Dakota

First instrument you learned to play: A flute.

What's on your bucket list: Probably just being able to maybe do a little bit more traveling and spending a lot of time with my grandchildren.

Family: I'm married (to) my husband, Randy, and I have two married children ... Jessica and her husband, Jeremy, and they have two little boys, Jackson and Maverick. And I have a son, Tyler, and his wife Dawn, and their four little girls; Gracie and Emory, and two twin baby girls, Declan and Layton. So they're all very special. I love being a grandma.

Favorite band or musician: I have too many... one of my favorite groups (is) Selah.

Cat person or dog person: Probably neither. I live on the farm so I have cats and dogs but, you know, they're all animals just out there. But none in the house.

What's the funniest or strangest thing you've found in a returned rental instrument: One of the gals brought a sock out the other day, that was shoved way down in the tuba. And there have been like, dead things in there and food — I remember a bat.

Is it pronounced REE-man or RYE-man: REE-man. The garden up in Ames is RYE-man ... but we answer to both.

Favorite concert you've ever been to: I would say Keith Urban, because Little Big Town was there, too.

What advice would you give to kids picking their first band instrument: (To) pick what is in their heart, don't let somebody else choose for you ... What they feel in their heart is what they're going to practice and continue to play and love in the future. It has to be what they feel and what they love and hope to continue in.
