Amy Hynek McFarland, DO, will join the Greater Regional Medical Clinic as a surgical specialists team today.
Hynek McFarland, originally from Ellston, grew up on a farm on the east side of Sun Valley Lake. She completed her associate’s degree at Southwestern Community College the same year she graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 2001. While obtaining those degrees, she also worked as the Sunday morning disc jockey at KSIB Radio in Creston. She obtained her B.A. degree from Graceland University in 2003 and then acquired a master’s degree in anatomy at Creighton University in 2004.
Dr. Hynek McFarland graduated from Des Moines University – College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2010 and recently completed a five year residency in general surgery at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Mo.
Hynek McFarland will be living in Creston with her husband Stacy McFarland and son Gus. She states she is excited and committed to her career in surgery.
“I’m a lot like my dad who is a farmer. He is always fixing something in the machine shed,” said Hynek McFarland. “It’s a great feeling to help someone feel better. I am looking forward to meeting and serving the great people of our region.”
An open house to welcome Dr. Hynek McFarland to the community will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, in the Medical Arts Plaza Conference Room. The public is invited to attend and welcome her to the community.
