Clarence “Butch” Eaton, 76, of Creston died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014 at Creston Nursing and Rehab Center in Creston.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014 at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., Creston. Mary O'Riley will officiate. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery near Creston. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today, Dec. 26. with family receiving friends from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Clarence “Butch” Eaton, son of Floyd and Minnie Mae (Freeman) Eaton, was born on Dec. 8, 1938 in Garrison, Iowa. Butch graduated from Garrison High School with the class of 1957, then attended the University of Northern Iowa where he met Carolyn. Butch and Carolyn Sue Seckington were married on April 17, 1960 at the United Methodist Church in Creston, Iowa.

Butch worked at Seckington Hardware and later purchased the store from his mother and father-in-law. He operated the store until he sold it to Easters. Butch continued to work there until he retired.

Butch was a scout leader and explorer leader and took many canoe trips to Canada with the Explorers. He loved playing golf with his friends at Crestmoor Golf Club. He was an excellent woodworker and made many gifts for his family. He also made a lot of stained glass for his family. Butch was a member of the Creston United Methodist Church, and was a former member of the Elks and Kiwanis Club.

Butch is survived by his wife Carolyn Eaton of Creston; his daughter, Vaughn (John) Howig of Lenexa, Kan.; his sons: Kirk (Michelle) Eaton of Kansas City, Kan., Corey (Barbara) Eaton of Frisco, Texas; and Christopher (Patty) Eaton of Mt. Ayr; 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; his brother: James (Shirley) Eaton of Alta; his sister: Maria Eaton of Des Moines; his mother-in-law: Vaughn Seckington of Creston; his sister-in-law: Phyllis Eaton of Lowden; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law Dave Seckington, his sisters: Ruth, Zella, and Arline; his brothers: Richard and Marion; nieces and nephews: Rodney Ackley, Jack Berger, John “Johnny” Eaton, Denny Tharp, Marion Eaton Jr., David Bray, Linda Berger and Colleen Tharp.
