Raiders, Timberwolves bow out in districts

Martensdale-St. Marys boys rallied in the second half to defeat Mount Ayr Thursday, 55-51 in overtime, in Class 1A District 6 action.

The Blue Devils (18-6), had lost to the Raiders twice in the regular season and trailed by eight points in the second half Thursday before forcing overtime at 46-46. Colton Wight had 21 points and nine rebounds for the Blue Devils.

Jackson Ruggles led Mount Ayr (18-6) with 19 points. Tate Dugan finished with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Martensdale-St. Marys faces defending state champion Madrid (19-4) in the district final Tuesday. Madrid defeated Central Decatur, 79-44.

Southwest Valley, co-champion of the Pride of Iowa Conference with Mount Ayr at 14-2, was sidelined by Riverside in Class 1A District 7 play Friday, 56-52.

Peyton Amdor had 28 points and 20 rebounds for Riverside (13-10). Cole Jeppesen finished with nine points and seven assists.

Cael Hogan and Wyatt Mendenhall each scored 17 points for Southwest Valley (19-4). Walker Bissell had 10 points. Casey Jones grabbed 11 rebounds while scoring six points.

Riverside plays Bedford (19-4) in the district final Tuesday at Southwest Valley High School. Bedford topped Fremont-Mills, 65-45, led by Quentin Dalton’s 25 points. John Deemer scored 16 points.
