Panthers 0-3 at LC duals

COUNCIL BLUFFS — Saturday the Creston boys wrestling team came back from the holiday break with an 0-3 performance at the Lewis Central duals. The Panthers fell to Papillion-La Vista, Lee’s Summit West and ADM.

Despite the losses, several Panthers came away with two wins on the night, including seniors Lane Travis, Brodrick Phelps, Kylen Parsons and Gunner Martwick. The other two-win performances came from Ben James and Colby Brammer.

Creston did not start a wrestler at 106 or 113 in any of the three duals.

In round one, against Papillion-La Vista, Creston fell 47-26. Winners in this dual were Parsons, Travis, Brammer, Jose Avila and Martwick.

At 132, Parsons won in a 1:05 fall over Lukas Monical. At 138, Travis won 17-2 in a technical fall over Gabe Murillo. At 157, Brammer won in a 14-6 major decision against Eliahjae Cheeks. At 175, Avila tech falled Syrus McNeil 18-2. At 215, Martwick pinned Kayne Hassler in 1:12.

In the second round, Lee’s Summit West defeated Creston 59-14. The Panthers posted just three wins.

James defeated Karsen Fetters at 120 in a third-period pin. Parsons won his 126 bout with an 11-9 decision over Jett Drehle. The last win came from Phelps at 144 with a perfect 15-0 technical fall over Logan Markovich.

Lee’s Summit scored on six first-period pins against Creston wrestlers. They won three of four of their duals, losing only to host Lewis Central 43-32 in round four.

Lewis Central and Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln both went 4-0 in duals on the day.

Five Panthers won in the third round, a 54-28 loss to ADM. James won via forfeit at 120. Travis won his 138 match with a 10-2 major decision over Grayson Sutter. Phelps, Brammer and Martwick all won in first-period pins.

At 16-3, the latest IA Wrestle rankings list Travis at seventh at 138 in Class 2A.

The Panthers return to action Thursday evening where they will be back in Council Bluffs for a quadrangular with host St. Albert, Clarinda and Kuemper Catholic. St. Albert has a ranked wrestler at 157, Sam Raymond.
