Creston pitcher and catcher earn all-state honors

Five area girls, including two Panthers, have been named to the Iowa Girls Coaches Association All-State teams.

Both seniors, Ava Adamson was named to the second team and Taryn Fredrickson to the third team in the Class 4A rankings.

Adamson, one of the top defensive catchers in Southwest Iowa, was a force at the top of the Panthers’ offense, batting .455 with eight home runs, 41 runs scored and 29 RBIs. She struck out only seven times in 110 at-bats. She was also successful on 16 of 18 stolen base attempts.

As pitcher, Fredrickson dominated, bringing her total career strikeouts to 600 in June. She pitched almost 2,500 over 33 games, with more than 600 outs at bat and an ERA of 1.62. Also successful at bat, Fredrickson scored three home runs and 33 RBIs.

In the 1A schools, Murray’s junior Keirsten Klein earned first team, going to bat 69 times with 33 runs and a team high of seven home runs. At third base, Klein had a .880 fielding percentage with 17 putouts.

Also from Murray was junior Karina Romero earning an honorable mention. With a batting average of .476, the junior earned 19 runs and five home runs. As catcher, Romero had a fielding percentage of .962.

Lenox’s Sadie Cox earned third team honors. The senior’s .448 batting average brought in 39 runs, nine home runs and 33 RBIs. On defense, she had 78 assists and 70 put outs on 164 total chances.
