Adamson to play in all-star series

IGCA announces all-district teams

Ava Adamson of Creston was named to the all-district team and will appear in the Iowa Girls Coaches Association all-star games Saturday in Waukee.

Creston senior catcher Ava Adamson has been selected to play in the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Senior All-Star games on Saturday.

Adamson is a member of the Red Team coached by Wayne coach Heather Fortune and Andrea Schwery of IKM-Manning. Izzie Moore of Wayne is also a member of that team.

The Red team’s schedule is 3 p.m. vs. White Team and 7 p.m. vs. Blue Team at Waukee High School. No other Hawkeye Ten Conference players were selected for the series. Neela Applegate of Winterset is on the Blue Team coached by James Flaws of Van Meter and Mike Kuba of Cedar Rapids Jefferson.

Activities Saturday in Waukee include the induction of former Interstate 35 coach Tim Bogs into the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Hall of Fame. The ceremony is scheduled at approximately 6 p.m. In 29 years at coach at I-35, Bogs won 675 games with six state tournament appearances in 1993, 2000, 2005, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

IGCA also announced its all-district teams and Adamson was selected to the Class 4A Southwest District team. Adamson batted .455 this season with 41 runs scored, 29 RBIs and eight home runs. She ranks third all-time in Creston home runs with 25, behind teammate Jersey Foote with 32 and Grand View University player Nevaeh Randall with 47. (With 14 home runs as a junior this year, Avery Staver has 19 home runs as a Panther, and 21 overall in her high school career.)

In Class 1A, Sadie Cox of Lenox was named to the Southwest District team, and Murray juniors Keirsten Klein and Karina Romero were selected on the South Central District team.

Lenox shortstop Sadie Cox was named all-district in Class A. Other area players selected were Murray juniors Keirsten Klein and Karina Romero.

Cox led the Tigers in hits (39), runs scored (39), home runs (9), RBIs (33) and batting average (.448). She ranks first in program history with 32 career home runs and 157 RBIs, and second with 38 career doubles.

Klein, Murray’s third baseman, hit .565 this season with seven home runs, 33 runs scored and 21 RBIs. She drew 13 walks and finished with a .634 on base percentage.

Romero was Murray’s catcher and hit .476 with five home runs, 20 RBIs and 19 runs scored. She had a .639 on base percentage.

IGCA 2025 Softball Academic All-State selections included Sadie Cox and Izzy Curtis of Lenox.
