The Lenox baseball team avenged two regular-season losses Saturday in a 9-7 win over Mount Ayr in the Class 1A District 14 final.
Mount Ayr’s season ends at 17-5. (A full report will appear in Tuesday’s News Advertiser.)
Lenox (20-9) faces Martensdale-St. Marys (29-5) in a substate final Tuesday night at Clarke High School in Osceola. The Tigers are seeking their first state tournament berth since 2010. Martensdale-St. Marys swept a regular-season doubleheader, 8-7 and 11-5.
Mount Ayr and Lenox softball teams were defeated in regional semifinal play Friday night.
Riverside’s Peyton Schafer pitched a no-hitter with five strikeouts to lead Riverside’s win. Adaline Martens had two hits and Madison Kelley drove in three runs.
At Lenox, Stanton’s Bree Mitchell pitched five innings with four hits allowed and had a double with three RBIs. Reese Reed, Izzy Curtis, Ashlynn Allee and Jaelynn Christensen each had one hit for Lenox.
