CHARITON — Creston took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and was never challenged in a 6-0 softball victory Monday night.

Ava Adamson doubled to open the game and Avery Staver drew a walk, setting up Evy Marlin for a two-out single to drive in two runs.

Staver again walked and scored in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Jersey Foote. Mila Kuhns led off the sixth with a solo home run. Kuhns hit a ground ball that was misplayed by the Chariton infield in the seventh to send across two more insurance runs.

Chariton, now 16-6, was unable to generate much offense against pitcher Taryn Fredrickson and the Panther defense. Fredrickson allowed five hits with nine strikeouts and three walks.

Foote and Sidney Staver each had two hits for Creston, which improved to 30-6 going into Tuesday’s senior night game against Greene County to conclude the regular season.

Creston opens regional play at 7 p.m. Saturday at home against the winner of Thursday’s Red Oak vs. Lewis Central game.
