Panthers tennis drops two

Thursday and Friday the Panther boys tennis team fell in duals to Atlantic and Audubon.

Atlantic

Creston (0-2) hosted the Trojans (1-1) Thursday, finding one singles win to lose the dual 8-1. Creston junior Carson Beer (No. 6) was the only Panther to come away with a win, defeating Atlantic freshman Koen Juhl 8-1.

Several Panthers fought in close matches but ultimately fell to their opponent. Creston’s No. 1, senior Spencer Brown, lost in an 8-5 bout with Atlantic senior Kinnick Juhl. Junior Ben Rushing (No. 3) also fell in an 8-5 matchup against sophomore Rayden Wheeler.

“Today we played better in spots but obviously have a lot to work on,” Creston coach Kevin Cooper said. “Atlantic is a good team and are always well coached.”

No. 4 Tim Bartlett fell 8-3 to Zayden Parker; No. 5 Dylan Dornack lost 8-2 to Brock Goodrich and rounding out singles was No. 2 Wesley Wires falling 8-1 to Connor Johnson.

In doubles, Brown and Wires lost 8-4 to Juhl and Johnson. Rushing and Bartlett fell 8-2 to Parker and Goodrich. Lastly, Dornack and Beer were taken down in an 8-3 contest with Wheeler and Juhl.

Audubon

Friday the Panthers (0-3) traveled to the Wheelers (1-0) where they fell 6-3 after three singles victories. The Panthers’ bottom three varsity singles won their bouts. Sophomore Bartlett defeated Audubon sophomore Kayden Otten 8-2 at No. 4. Sophomore Dylan Dornack (No. 5) beat sophomore Fred Harris in a close 8-5 battle. Beer won his second bout in a row, defeating senior Collin Hartl 8-2.

Brown and Rushing were shut out 8-0 by their senior opponents while Wires fell 8-3 to junior Carson Matthews.

In doubles, Dornack and Beer were the closest to victory, putting up an 8-6 fight in the loss to Harris and Hartl. Brown and Wires fell 8-1 and Rushing and Bartlett lost 8-2.

“Tonight was obviously a tough night for us, but congratulations to Audubon,” Cooper said. “They were more consistent than us in spots, played doubles better than us and they earned the win. We will get right back at it competing again against Southwest Valley on Monday.”

Monday the Panthers defeated Southwest Valley 5-4 at home. The recap will be in Wednesday’s CNA. Their next dual is Monday, April 21 at Chariton (1-1).
