After allowing only three runs through four games while scoring 27 of their own, the Panthers were finally beat when Class 4A Indianola came to town Monday.
The Panthers defense made stops in the first three innings to keep the Indians at bay.
Senior Sam Henry earned the first run of the night, smacking a homerun over the centerfield trees in the second inning to give Creston a 1-0 lead. Henry’s hit was the only one for the Panthers.
Senior Cael Turner pitched four innings, striking out three batters.
The Indians got in a groove in the fourth inning.
After four batters, the Indian had two outs, one run and bases loaded.
Luke Rockhold hit an RBI single at the top of the batting order followed by another run after Andrew DeWall was hit by a pitch.
Creston struggled with fielding, balls slipping past the short stop or landing right in the gap between fielders. They committed two errors.
The Panthers were down 3-1 with two outs and bases loaded when Jack Strong knocked one out of the park for a grand slam.
The hit put the Panthers down 7-1 and the Indians earned two more base spots before a strikeout finally ended the inning.
Creston batters combined for eight strikeouts at the plate, going three-and-out in five innings.
The Panthers were scheduled to host Lenox Wednesday, but the game was postponed due to incoming severe weather.
A makeup date has not yet been determined.
Creston hosts Van Meter Wednesday and Red Oak Thursday.
