Defense stalls out in home opener against Underwood

Senior Dillon Starlin kicks the ball down the sidelines Thursday in a 7-0 loss to Underwood in the home opener.

The Panthers boys soccer team looks a little different this year with three starters from last season not participating this year and a couple talented freshmen coming into the lineup.

Thursday they hosted Underwood in their season opener where they fell 7-0.

Freshman Jace Purdum gets a leg up to stop the ball.

A new goalie this season, freshman Baret Lane stepped up for the Panthers, finding numerous saves throughout the night.

Through nearly 25 minutes, the Panthers were able to keep their defense tight, not allowing a score through.

It was only a matter of time before Underwood broke through as a majority of the game was played on the Panthers’ side of the field.

Freshmen Joaquin Flores and Jace Purdum were active members on the field for Creston, bringing something new to the offense.

Underwood senior Kaden Ogle led the Eagles with five goals. The Eagles found the net four times in the first half and three in the second.

The Panthers return to action Tuesday at Chariton.
