Panther basketball nears regular season end

The Panther boys held off Central Decatur in a 57-51 win Thursday played at Southwestern Community College. Creston High was hosting a wrestling meet the same time. The Panthers have won four straight.

The third quarter was the biggest difference among the two teams as they scored the same in the first and fourth quarters. Creston had 7 in the second quarter to Central Decatur’s 6.

Individual stats were not available.

Creston lost 68-45 Friday at Harlan ending a four-game win streak. Harlan raced out to a 29-22 lead at halftime. Creston was able to almost match points with Harlan in the third quarter. Harlan extended its lead in the fourth.

Creston boys finish their regular season today when Maryville, Missouri, visits.

Creston girls finished its regular season Feb. 7 with a 61-34 loss at top 10 ranked Lewis Central.

Creston’s only quarter to score in double digits was the first with 12. Lewis Central led at halftime 34-20.

Brynn Tussey was high score for Creston with 10 points from 4-8 shooting and a made both of her free throw attempts. Kadley Bailey was next with nine points from 4-10 shooting including 1-2 from the 3-point line. Ava Adamson added seven points.

Tussey also had eight rebounds to lead Creston. Hollynn Rieck had seven rebounds.

Lucy Scott led Lewis Central with 21 points.

As a team, Creston finished 12-40 shooting including 3-7 from the 3-point line. Creston was 7-13 from the free-throw line. The Panthers had 20 turnovers.

Creston finished the regular season 6-15. Creston’s regional game is 7 p.m. Wednesday at Winterset.
