RED OAK — Southwest Valley competed in its third cross country meet Monday at the Paul Fish Invitational in Red Oak.
The team logged six personal meet records and one career PR on their way to a pair of fifth place finishes.
In the girls race, senior Sierra Pearson led the Timberwolves in 32nd, followed closely by junior Olivia Kathikar close behind in 34th. Seniors Karissa Richey (37th) and Kya Newton (39th) and junior Victoria Fletchall (43rd) rounded out the girls squad.
“I challenged the girls to go out tonight and be a top-four team out of the six schools posting team scores,” Coach Jason Hults said. “Sierra, Olivia and Karissa all ran personal course best times, and Kya and Victoria had great competitive finishes. The bigger class 2A and 3A schools were better tonight, but the girls finished second out of the three class 1A schools and fifth overall.”
Leading the boys was junior Matthew Means, who ran a new career PR for the second straight meet to finish 38th overall.
Senior Ethan James was just three seconds behind in 39th place while putting up a personal course best time. Sophomores Quaid Eddy (50th) and Ashton Boswell (51st) were followed by first-time runner Santiago (Yago) Quintans Pierno in 56th place and Lucas James in 60th, with a personal course best.

“The boys have really been working hard and pushing each other in practice all season and their times are showing the benefit of that effort,” Hults said. “Yago has been a great addition since joining our team last week as a new exchange student from Spain, and we look forward to seeing what he can do as the season progresses. I’m not sure he really knew what to expect for his first ever cross country meet, but he has had a great attitude and has really bonded with the other kids well.”
The Timberwolves return to action as they host their cross country invitational on Thursday at Lake Icaria. Results from Red Oak are attached.
