Spartan men fall at Iowa Lakes

ESTHERVILLE - Spartan Joel Villanuevea’s 24 points were not enough as the Spartans lost 72-62 Wednesday.

Villanueva finished with 9-13 from the field including 5-9 from the 3-point line. He made his only free throw attempt. It was the only free throw Southwestern shot.

The Spartans trailed 37-30 at halftime.

Devin Tomlinson was next high scorer for SWCC finishing with 17. He was 7-14 shooting including 3-5 from the 3-point line. He had a team high five rebounds. Drake Davison came off the bench and scored 12. he was 5-9 from shooting.

As a team Southwestern was 24-51 shooting including 13-30 at the 3-point line. Tomlinson and Justin Bussey each had three assists. Bussey had three steals.

Iowa Lakes had three players in double digits. Jeremiah Burke had 22. As a team, Iowa Lakes was 30-51 shooting including 6-17 from the 3-point line. Iowa Lakes was 6-7 at the free throw line.

Southwestern (8-15) plays 3 p.m. Saturday at Iowa Western in Council Bluffs. The Spartans play at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Southeast. The Spartans next home game is 1 p.m. Feb. 11 vs. Northeast.
