Panther basketball splits at Shenandoah

SHENANDOAH – Creston girls were on the short end of a 38-35 loss Tuesday at Shenandoah.

Doryn Paup was high score for Creston finishing with 14 points from 6-14 shooting from the field. She was also 2-2 from the free throw line. Nevaeh Randall had eight points from 3-8 shooting. She was 2-5 from the free throw line. Keely Coen finished with six points.

Paup finished with a double-double as she totaled 16 rebounds. Seven were on the offensive side. The senior also had two blocks and two steals. Randall had nine rebounds and three blocks. Aleah Calvin totaled four rebounds and three steals.

Randall and Hollynn Rieck each had two assists.

As a team, Creston finished 13-56 shooting including 1-21 from the 3-point line. The Panthers ere 8-19 from the free throw line. Creston has 12 turnovers. Shenandoah was 7-36 shooting including 3-21 at the 3-point line. The Fillies were 21-38 at the free throw line. Shenandoah had 27 turnovers.

The loss drops the Panther girls to 4-9. Creston hosts Kuemper-Catholic at 6 p.m. Friday.


The Panther boys started out strong from the beginning in a 62-33 win over Shenanodah. Creston put up 29 first-quarter points to Shenandoah’s 8.

Creston’s advantage would extend in the second quarter scoring another 19 and allowing only 10. Creston was up 48-18 at halftime. The second half remained steady throughout as the Panthers maintained the lead of about 30 points. Creston only scored three points in the fourth quarter.

The Panthers had two players in double digit scoring. Patrick Varner finished with 12 making all four of his field goals and four free throws. Cael Turner was right behind him with 11 points. He was also perfect 5-5 from the field and one free throw. Kyle Strider had seven.

Strider had a team high six rebounds and three steals. Noah Felix finished with four rebounds. Logan Anson had three rebounds. Turner and Ethan Crawford each had three assists.

As a team, Creston finished 25-53 from the field including 4-16 from the 3-point line. The Panthers made eight of 14 free throws. Creston had 14 turnovers. Shenandoah was 11-38 shooting including 4-5 from the 3-point line. The Mustangs were 7-13 at the free throw line. Shenandoah had 25 turnovers.

Creston is 7-3 and play visiting Kuemper-Catholic Friday after the girl’s game.
