Southwestern Spartan men’s team lost 79-64 at Metropolitan Community College Nov. 16.
The second half proved to be the difference. Southwestern went in at halftime with a 32-31 advantage.
Metropolitan had the momentum in the second half scoring 48 points to Southwestern’s 32.
Despite the loss, three Spartans scored in double digits. Devin Tomlinson was high score with 22 from 9-17 field goals including two 3-point shots.
Drake Davison finished with 17 from 7-12 shooting with a 3-point shot.
Everett Parker scored 14. Corbin Dozier came off the bench to score 9.
Tomlinson also had six rebounds.
Johnson County defeated visiting Southwestern 90-63 Saturday, Nov. 12.
Johnson County established a double-digit lead in the first half limiting Southwestern to 23 points. Southwestern was able to match Johnson’s scoring in the second half, but could not lower the deficit.
Quincy Evans was top scorer for Southwestern finishing with 17. He was 6-7 from the field including 5-6 from the 3-point line. Khayden Hooks was next with 11 points from 5-15 shooting. Davison had 8.
Highland Community College-Kansas defeated Southwestern 91-76 Nov. 11.
Highland built its lead in the first half with a 50-32 halftime advantage. Southwestern was able to outscore Highland in the second half, but not get any closer. Southwestern scored 44 second-half points.
Isaiah Peasley was top scorer for Southwestern with 15 points. He made 3-7 from the 3-point line. Patrick Worrell and Joel Villanueva each finished with 13 points. Villanueva was 4-7 behind the the 3-point line.
Worrell also finished with a team high eight rebounds.
Brance Baker had three steals.
Women
A strong fourth quarter gave Fort Scott Community College an 81-77 win over the Southwestern Women Nov. 12. The score was 55-52 in the Spartans’ favor starting the fourth.
Cassidy Nelson scored nearly half of the Spartans points finishing with 36 points. She was 10-18 from the field and missed one of her 14 free throws. She finished with 10 rebounds.
Jordan Thompson had 14 points including 9-10 from the free throw line. Harmony Shaw came off the bench for 12 points. Maddie Stewart had eight rebounds.

The Spartans scored 7 points in the first and 9 in the third quarters. Lexi Robinson was high score for Southwestern with 9. Cassidy Nelson finished with 7 points and 13 rebounds. Harmony Shaw had seven points.
