Mount Ayr vs. Lamoni game suspended

MOUNT AYR — Lamoni leads 8-5 over Mount Ayr in Class 1A-7 second round action in the fifth inning when the game was suspended due to outflow boundary which preceded the storms by bringing cold wind gusts.

The game will hopefully start back up tonight at 5 p.m., and Mount Ayr will be hitting in the bottom of the fifth.

Lamoni’s Javin Stevenson opened the game with a walk drawn. Landon McKillip’s bat connected with a ball that hit starting Mount Ayr pitcher Jaydon Knight’s throwing hand.

The red clad Demons plated four to open the first inning.

“We really started slow tonight,” co-coach Bill Huntington said. “It was unfortunate with Knight taking the ball off his hand because he’s been our No. 1 or No. 2 on the mound all year.”

Demon senior Braedon Boswell connected on the second home run of Lamoni’s season with a two run shot to left field.

A fielding collision between Drew Ehlen and Adler Shay tallied an RBI for Demon Brayden Olson.

Odin Rivera drove in Lamoni’s fourth run in the following at bat. Creyton Ogier singled and Cannon Rivera drew a walk.

Knight exited after Rivera’s walk and Jaixen Frost went in to replace his fellow class of 2023 Raider, and Frost fanned the remainder of the Demon side.

“With Jaixen, we just had a hard time finding the zone early,” Huntington said.

Jaixen Frost lit the scoreboard for the Raiders with a solo shot leadoff home run in the bottom of the first.

Neither team added a tally to their respective halves of the scoreboard in the second and third innings.

Odin Rivera and Ogier each added a run in top half of the fourth inning.

The Raiders plated four in the bottom of the fourth and two of those runs were drove in by Ryce Reynolds.

Daron Drake went on the mound in the top of the fifth inning and two Demon runs were tallied, one by Stevenson and an RBI by Kalvin Brown.

The game was suspended before any Mount Ayr batters could dig their spikes in at home. Tyler Martin, Riley Stark and Cody Larson will be up to bat when the game resumes.

“I think this gives us a chance to re-focus, come back tomorrow and put the ball in play,” Huntington said.
