Panthers defeat Wildcats, Cardinals and No. 15 Rams

CRESTON — A pair of Creston wrestlers collected three match wins each and the Panthers went 3-0 at their home quad Tuesday night.

Nine other Creston wrestlers notched three wins, each of the nine had at least one victory by forfeit.

No. 5 Creston upended West Central Valley, 73-0, defeated Treynor 66-9, and defeated a dinged up No. 15 Glenwood 60-15.

“It’s always good to go 3-0,” Creston head wrestling coach Cody Downing said. “Getting wins inside your conference is always big, we’ll take the win.”

Brennan Hayes opened the night with a pin in 29 seconds over West Central Valley Wildcat Kaedon Lindsay.

Kaden Street followed Brennan’s pin with a pin of his own, his first of three victories. Ty Morrison, Max Chapman and Lincoln Keeler picked up forfeit victories over the Wildcats.

Chris Wilson, Justin Parsons and Christian Ahrens each pinned their respective opponents in 37 seconds or fewer. Jagger Luther and Milo Staver each landed a major decision victory.

Austin Evans had the last pin against a West Central Valley Wildcat as both Triston Barncastle and Briley Hayes won their respective matches by decision.

Creston had a quintet of pins against Treynor and only lost two matches to the Cardinals.

“Even the matches we lost, we were right there in the end, we got to clean that up,” Downing said.

Glenwood, the No. 15 team in 2A going into Tuesday’s quad, forfeited six matches due to injuries.

“Glenwood was definitely not at full speed,” Downing said. “Honestly, you’d like to see them at full speed to gauge where you’re at. I think they’re capable of making a deep postseason run.”

Max Chapman, Chris Wilson and Trey Chestnut each picked up pins over their opponents.

Kaden Street capped the night with 3-0 decision over Tyler Boldra, who finished third at the Hawkeye 10 Conference meet last season.

Creston travels north this weekend for their next events. On Dec. 18, they’ll take part in the Fort Dodge Invitational and on Dec. 19 they’ll have a dual at Humboldt as a precursor to a collegiate dual featuring No. 13 Iowa State and No. 15 Purdue.

“We’ve had a long run and we’ve been working really hard and now it’s time to take in the opportunities we have this week,” Downing said. “I want our guys to enjoy it.”
