Both schools came together about the incident that went viral on social media and saw it as a learning experience.
“At the conclusion of the basketball game on Nov. 30 an incident happened that was instigated by an East Union athlete and totally unacceptable,” East Union principal and activities director Josh Vanderflught said. “We apologize to the Diagonal athletes, families, and fans; as well as the East Union families and fans. These actions are not acceptable and we are taking measures to ensure that they are not repeated.”
East Union and Diagonal both have a majority of their season to play until they face off against each other again on Feb. 3, 2022.
“Josh watched the film and we talked this morning,” Diagonal principal Larry McNutt said. “He has everything taken care of, so we’re both good with each other.”
