Panthers sweep home quad

Creston/O-M opened their 2021-2022 season with three wins Tuesday night. The Panthers beat Interstate 35 (42-30), Nodaway Valley (66-6) and a ranked Winterset team (40-24).

“It’s nice to go 3-0, but the coach in me goes straight to we got to fix this and work on that,” Panther wrestling coach Cody Downing said. “We got plenty mistakes to fix and plenty to work on.”

Jagger Luther opened the night with a 6-0 victory as the Roadrunners didn’t have anyone at the 195 pound weight class.

Max Chapman and Chris Wilson both got pinned by Interstate 35 foes and then a quartet of Panthers got falls of their own.

Justin Parsons (106 lbs.) pinned Graham Nagel in 1:03, Christian Ahrens (113 lbs.) pinned Michael Upp in 2:33, Lincoln Keeler (120 lbs.) over Ethan Nelson in 2:00 and Tyson Smith (136 lbs.) pinned George Dutrey in 0:39.

Trey Chestnut fell 10-9 by decision to Baker Chase.

Triston Barncastle also fell by decision, 8-3, to Roadrunner Nick Steinlage.

Panthers Brennan Hayes pinned Kaden Bush in 24 seconds and Kaden Street pinned Chase Darst in 3:17.

Ty Morrison fell 8-2 to Eli Green.

“The two that stood out to me with effort and where they’re at, and maybe a building block for them are Trey Chestnut and Ty Morrison at 132 and 182,” Downing said.

Creston/O-M had five forfeit victories of Nodaway Valley and as many pins against the Wolverines.

Chris Wilson (285), Lincoln Keeler (120), Tyson Smith (136), Brennan Hayes (160) and Kaden Street (170) each had a pin.

Morrison won a close decision, 5-4, over Caelen DeVault and Luther finished the dual with a forfeit victory.

“The good thing is our fight and our conditioning,” Downing said. “If we have those, we can build on everything else.”

Winterset’s Dugan Tolley had a 1-0 decision over Wilson in the first match.

A trio of Panthers: Parsons, Ahrens and Keeler each picked up victories, a forfeit win for Parsons, a 9-3 decision for Ahrens and a 4-2 sudden victory for Keeler.

“Lincoln Keeler looked great tonight, he had a great night,” Downing said. “Christian Ahrens too.”

Tyson Smith fell to Husky Abe Bushong in a 17-1 technical fall.

Chestnut won a major decision, 10-1, over Kahne Kibruz. Next, Evans and Barncastle both pinned their opponents

Both Hayes lost to their respective opponents, Street got a forfeit victory for the Panthers and Morrison and Luther each dropped decisions.

Panther Max Chapman (220 lbs.) punctuated the night with a pin in 58 seconds of Jadyn Cooper.

“It was a team effort, we did a great job,” Downing said.

Creston/O-M travels to Dallas-Center Grimes on Dec. 4.
