Creston goes for Homecoming W

Saydel (0-6) is Creston’s (4-2) Homecoming opponent this year, kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Panther Field.

Last week, Creston was beat by No. 9 ADM 42-0.

Saydel fell to Knoxville 24-14.

The Eagles will be without their head coach Austin Stubbs. Stubbs, per the Des Moines Register and other media outlets, allegedly punished his players due to a coach thinking a player allegedly stole $100 from him.

Creston head football coach Brian Morrison is happy that the game will be played as scheduled.

“I’m just thankful we get to play the football game,” coach Morrison said. “I know their athletic director and assistant coaches have done an outstanding job to make sure that happened.”

After last week’s defeat, Creston looks to have a good headspace coming into Friday’s game.

“It’s tough going into weeks like this coming off a week where we didn’t play our best,” coach Morrison said. “I think our mindsets been good at practice.”

Of Saydel’s 1,088 yards from scrimmage this season, 790 of those have come from aerial assaults from senior quarterback Judd Roberts who stands tall at 6 feet 4 inches and weighs 210 pounds.

Roberts has thrown for five touchdowns this season.

“They are pass heavy so we got to make sure their quarterback is uncomfortable, he’s a big kid, throws the ball well and they have receivers that are good,” coach Morrison said.

Against ADM last week, the Panthers were held to just 90 rushing yards.

Briley Hayes led the way with 73 of those 90 yards.

“I think our game plan is good against what they do,” coach Morrison said. “We have to establish the run from the get go to set up the pass game.”

With it being Homecoming week, coach Morrison assures there are no distractions on the team.

“I think our kids understand homecoming is about the football game and the community getting involved with that and showing up and supporting us,” coach Morrison said. The kids understand the expectations of homecoming week so I’m pleased.
