Panther infielders gain league honors

Greenwalt on H-10 second team; Turner gets honorable mention

Creston’s young keystone combination of sophomore second baseman Gannon Greenwalt and freshman shortstop Cael Turner picked up Hawkeye Ten recognition in the the announcement of all-conference baseball selections Thursday.

Upon completion of St. Albert Catholic’s state championship in the Class 1A tournament at Carroll, the all-conference teams were announced and Greenwalt earned a spot on the second team. Turner received honorable mention.

Both Turner and Greenwalt were important members of Creston’s middle defense. Offensively, Greenwalt had a .395 batting average with three extra-base hits, 24 RBIs and 11 runs scored. He had six stolen bases in seven attempts and an .898 fielding percentage.

Turner batted .333 with 13 runs scored, 10 RBIs and six extra-base hits, including one home run. He was 9-10 in stolen base attempts and finished with a .925 fielding percentage. Combined, Turner and Greenwalt had only 18 errors in 204 total chances.

Six Hawkeye Ten players were named unanimous first team all-conference choices. Clarinda’s Cooper Neal, Braiden Heiden of Denison-Schleswig, Kuemper Catholic’s Blake Pottebaum, Lewis Central’s Aron Harrington and St. Albert Catholic’s Cy Patterson and Isaac Sherrill were unanimous choices by league coaches.
